God's Wisdom vs. Man's Wisdom
wis·dom /ˈwizdəm/ noun 1. the quality of being wise 2. good judgement that comes from knowledge
According to the dictionary definition of wisdom, you will become wise and make life decisions depending on the knowledge you acquire and how you apply it to life’s experiences. The difference between the wisdom of God and man is that the wisdom of God has to be revealed to the heart first and then to the mind, while the wisdom of man is revealed to the mind. I have witnessed many people who get frustrated because when they read the Bible it doesn’t make sense to them, so they don’t see a reason to continue. But if it is not revealed to their heart, their mind has no way of contextualizing it for day-to-day experiences. The other difference between God and man’s wisdom is that God’s wisdom is revealed on a relationship basis. He only reveals his secrets to those who are his friends. John 15:15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from my father I have made known to you. When a person obtains God’s wisdom, it leaves no room for boasting because the process is so personal and powerful that they know that they can’t take the credit for God’s work in them. The wisdom of man, on the other hand, results in a boasting attitude because there are accolades, prestigious benefits, and degrees to prove how it was obtained. So if the things of God make you yawn, it’s important to understand that your heart is not connected to God in a way that His wisdom can be revealed to you. You can do something about it by decluttering from distractions that hinder revelation from God. These distractions are usually experiences that make us believe that our logic can make sense of the things of God. But we have to be intentional to search for the things of God with our hearts instead of our minds. Sometimes the lack of revelation is a sign of where our hearts may be. Remember: your revelation of God will increase with your ability to engage Him with your heart.
1 Corinthians 1:18-31 for the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written
‘I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.
Where is the wise man? Where is the wisdom scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 for indeed the Jews ask for a signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the gentiles’ foolishness 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of god and the wisdom of God. 25 because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is wiser than men 26 for consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the wise, 27 and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no man may boast before God. 30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. 31 So that, just as it is written, LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD 2 Corinthians 4:3 and even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of those world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Finally, we obtain the wisdom of God in relationship with Christ. I understand that some people have a difficult time with this, but my hope and prayer is that you search God with all your heart until He reveals Himself to you.
